This listing is another to check out just for the art. It’s white walls and open spaces are home to an expansive contemporary art collection. The building, in San Antonio, Texas was originally a candy factory that has been converted to lofts. The building was purchased by Linda Pace, an artist and collector and the founder and trustee of Artpace San Antonio. Pace turned the fifth floor into her residence and the sixth floor into galleries and both are now for sale (Pace passed away last summer). It’s a beautiful penthouse and a testament to the life of a woman truly devoted to art. It is listed at $5.7 million.

The Swiss ski village of Villars-Sur-Ollon,is home to many chalets. This one, tucked into the side of a mountain, is located just a three-minute walk from the cog-railway to begin your day of skiing. In the warmer months it is ideally located for spring hikes. The home has old beams, rustic stone and a cedar roof. It is a recent build, so it has a clean and contemporary style. And you can’t ask for better views; you get snow-capped peaks in your window as you sit in your bathtub. There are seven bedrooms total and four bathrooms. It’s listed as price on request.

Paris, France will be home to the world’s greenest office building. Skidmore Owings & Merrill has unveiled plans for the Energy Plus building which will be built in the Gennevilliers area of Paris. It will have solar panels covering the roof, more than any other building in the world, and will produce enough electricity to power the heating, lighting and air condition need of the 5,000 tenants. it will even generate carbon credits. The building will be more expensive to construct which will lead to higher rents, but tenants will not have to pay for electricity and the maintenance costs will be lower. The building’s cooling system will take water from the Seine and pump it around the offices. The project has the seal of approval from Bill Clinton, who endorsed the project at the Clinton Global Initiative meeting lats year.

Last October I wrote about Tom Ford’s move to pay $84,000 to purchase the mineral rights beneath his Galisteo ranch in order to protect his land from possible oil exploration in the region. It looks like a pretty smart investment when you take into account what is happening to candy billionaire Forrest Mars Jr. Businessweek reports that Mars, who is worth around $14 billion from his family’s ownership of candy company Mars Inc, has been fighting to keep a gas company off his massive Montana ranch. Pinnacle Gas Resources has a mineral lease to the land and a state judge has ruled that the company has the right to enter Mars’ Diamond Cross Ranch to drill an exploratory well. The company is looking for coal-bed methane, natural gas that’s often stored in thick coal seams in the region. The ranch is spread over more than 82,000 acres and Pinnacle’s lease covers 10,300 acres of the property. Mars is worried that if the company does find methane they could use millions of gallons of water from underground aquifers to access it. This in turn would injured the ranch’s capability to maintain the big herds of livestock on the property. Beth Kaeding, chairwoman of the Northern Plains Resource Council, summed the situation up perfectly in an article in the Jackson Hole Star Tribune, saying: “”If you don’t own the mineral rights, it doesn’t matter how big your ranch is, how politically powerful you’re, how much money you have. Mineral rights trump surface rights.”

The suburban town on Winchester, Massachusetts is home to a variety of older grand homes. This home, with an English country manor look, was built in the 1930s. It has six bedrooms and sits on two acres that include formal gardens. You’re going to need your Murphy’s Oil soap for this one because there is beautiful woodwork everywhere. Large leaded glass windows keep it from being too gloomy. While the merits of a room covered in toile continue to elude me, the bedrooms do exude a posh coziness. And if ever there was a home that made good and ample use of Oriental rugs, this is it. it is listed at $4.6 million.

A few weeks ago, I mentioned that diamond billionaire Lev Leviev was switching his main residence to London. It looks like he’s found a place to call home sweet home and it just happens to be the most high-priced new property ever sold in Britain. Leviev’s new house in Hampstead, North-West London cost him

The coast of Oregon is often overlooked when it comes to seaside homes. Sure, it’s chilly and you’ll face your fair share of winter storms, but the land here is beautiful and the air is clean. Today’s home was built in the early 1990s and has eight bedrooms and over 10,000 square feet on a 45-acre plot of land that includes a horse barn and a separate apartment area. It definitely seems to be a home built to the owner’s taste and specifications but it does make good use of the ocean views and it has a casual charm. But the finishes seem a bit too generic for me. I’ve never quite understood why someone would create in a multimillion dollar home and then skimp on the interior. This place could use more furniture, and some upgrades in order to help it reach its full potential. But that office perched on top of a tower for the ideal possible ocean views, is a stunner. It is listed at $5.9 million.

Today’s home is another of Rhode Island’s famous summer cottages. The J.B. Lippincott Home in Jamestown, Rhode Island was originally known as Meeresblick and was built in1892-93 for J.B. Lippincott, son of the founder and later president of the J.B. Lippincott Co. publishing firm. After Lippincott’s death in 1940 the house went to his daughter and her descendants still own the home. The shingled home sits on a waterfront parcel on Mackerel Cove and has charming fieldstone details. Inside the allure comes from the original woodwork, and beautiful glass windows and brick fireplaces. Unfortunately we don’t get any of the all-important kitchen and water closet shots with this listing so some updates might be necessary. it is listed at $4.9 million.

Each condo project wants to be considered “green” these days but some take it further than others. The Aquarius Tower in Atlanta, Georgia is a condo project located near the Georgia Aquarium and Centennial Olympic Park. The 500-foot tower will have a serious commitment to substitute power: a five-floor wind tunnel with about 60 small turbines and rooftop solar panels could provide more than half of the building’s power. The project will also recycled building materials and thermally efficient products. Amenities will include a pool, sundeck, fitness center, lounge, media room, guest suite and concierge services. The building will also have Georgia’s first automated underground valet service. Prices start as low as the $300,000s to the $900,000s and penthouses will range from $1 to $2.5 million. It is hoped that construction on the $70 million project will begin this spring with an estimated completion in 2010.

$29 million might not turn heads in parts of California or New York but it’s news in Wisconsin. Chateau du Lac in Ellison Bay, Wisconsin is the biggest and the most expensive home for sale in Wisconsin history. The home is more than 35,000 square feet and sits on a limestone bluff overlooking Lake Michigan. The 100-acre estate also includes a guest home, a separate studio house, and a separate beach house with steps that lead to a sun pier on the shores of Lake Michigan.

The main house opens with a formal two-story foyer with dual staircases. The main floor alone has a formal great room, bayside parlors,a 14-seat Art Deco cinema, custom kitchen, formal dining room, morning room, pub room, garden room, a two-story library and an indoor pool and whirlpool. On the second floor, the master suite is more massive than many homes at 5,000 square feet and consists of seven rooms. A gallery connects the master suite with the northern wing which includes a guest parlor, a galley kitchen, and three additional private bedroom suites with full baths. The home is being sold with all of the furnishings including antiques and paintings for your $29 million. Too bad there aren’t bigger photos on this one.
