Today’s home is another of Rhode Island’s famous summer cottages. The J.B. Lippincott Home in Jamestown, Rhode Island was originally known as Meeresblick and was built in1892-93 for J.B. Lippincott, son of the founder and later president of the J.B. Lippincott Co. publishing firm. After Lippincott’s death in 1940 the home went to his daughter and her descendants still own the home. The shingled home sits on a waterfront parcel on Mackerel Cove and has charming fieldstone details. Inside the allure comes from the original woodwork, and beautiful glass windows and brick fireplaces. Unfortunately we don’t get any of the all-important kitchen and bathroom shots with this listing so some updates might be necessary. it is listed at $4.9 million.

Each condo project wants to be considered “green” these days but some take it further than others. The Aquarius Tower in Atlanta, Georgia is a condo project located near the Georgia Aquarium and Centennial Olympic Park. The 500-foot tower will have a serious commitment to substitute power: a five-floor wind tunnel with about 60 small turbines and rooftop solar panels could provide more than half of the building’s power. The project will also recycled building materials and thermally efficient products. Amenities will include a pool, sundeck, fitness center, lounge, media room, guest suite and concierge services. The building will also have Georgia’s first automated underground valet service. Prices begin as low as the $300,000s to the $900,000s and penthouses will range from $1 to $2.5 million. It is hoped that construction on the $70 million project will start this spring with an estimated completion in 2010.

$29 million might not turn heads in parts of California or New York but it’s news in Wisconsin. Chateau du Lac in Ellison Bay, Wisconsin is the biggest and the most expensive home for sale in Wisconsin history. The home is more than 35,000 square feet and sits on a limestone bluff overlooking Lake Michigan. The 100-acre estate also includes a guest house, a separate studio home, and a separate beach house with steps that lead to a sun pier on the shores of Lake Michigan.
The main house opens with a formal two-story foyer with dual staircases. The main floor alone has a formal great room, bayside parlors,a 14-seat Art Deco cinema, custom kitchen, formal dining room, morning room, pub room, garden room, a two-story library and an indoor pool and whirlpool. On the second floor, the master suite is more massive than many homes at 5,000 square feet and consists of seven rooms. A gallery connects the master suite with the northern wing which includes a guest parlor, a galley kitchen, and three additional private bedroom suites with full baths. The home is being sold with all of the furnishings including antiques and paintings for your $29 million. Too bad there aren’t bigger photos on this one.

I’m fed up with the PC; well, not the generic Computer, but just the one that Microsoft has crammed down our throats. I need a new laptop but I refuse to buy a Personal computer because I refuse to be forced to have Vista on it. I comprehend that I wouldn’t even have the highest level of administrative rights on that machine. (Is that really true?)
Everyone I have talked to in my small field of influence has said, “check out a Mac.” So I looked at the new Mac Air. It is trim and light, has a dual core so I have the ability to run my current Windows programs. But the battery life is limited and I need at least 3 ISB ports. Maybe I’ll get a Mac Book Pro.
It seems that Apple and Microsoft have changed places. Used to be that Apple was the proprietary nazi, forcing users to Apple only. Now it’s Microsoft that’s demanding that we use their latest software version. Strange world. Steve Jobs the new Bill Gates?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Yesterday’s estate had 70 photos, this day, just seven but what a lovely seven they are. This modern home in Phoenix, Arizona just hit the market. The five-bedroom home has around the same square footage as yesterday’s home but with less land and a far better view. You couldn’t ask for a dreamier infinity pool than this one. The home has three levels, each with expansive decks. There is a large media room on the lower level that’s built into the mountain. The contemporary blue kitchen has Snaidero cabinets, Miele appliances and a Gaggenau pizza oven. It is listed at $7.9 million.

A home in London where JM Barrie is believed to have written Peter Pan is now up for sale. The six-bedroom home in South Kensington is where Barrie met the Llewelyn Davies boys who inspired the story (as dramatized in the motion picture Finding Neverland). The home is a classic Victorian with two living and amusing rooms, a dining/breakfast room, balconies and a private garden as well as access to communal gardens. It definitely seems to be in need of a gentle restoration but it’s still a magical home. It is listed at

Luxury condos in one of the most anticipated buildings in the U.S. went on sale this week. CBS2 in Chicago reports that the sales office for the Chicago Spire is now open. The sales office is as posh as the condos themselves with designs created by the architect of the Spire, Santiago Calatrava. Residences at the 2,000-foot-tall Spire are price from $750,000 to $15 million each. I had my doubts about the building when I first heard about it in 2005 but was soundly rebuked by commenters who insisted that this building is exactly what Chicago needs. Despite the sky-high prices and a sluggish real estate market, it is expected that the Spire will sell, not just to people in Chicago, but to people around the world who are eager to live in a Calatrava building. Those who purchase are in for a long wait, move in isn’t expected until 2012.
