Ok, I admit it. I enjoy watching the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show each year. This year’s show starts Monday (Feb. 11 and 12, 2008). I’m partial to Shelties, because I’ve had several; they are really great dogs.
This caused me to think about the “you can’t instruct an old dog new tricks” saying. Not true. Of course, “old” is relative. And you truly are as old as you feel.
Do you think you’re too old as a Baby Boomer to start into a new business? Remember what Henry Ford said, “If you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right.”
If you need help, there are many resources you can use in your own community. In particular, the SBA and its partners (SCORE and SBDC’s) have workshops and individual counseling in your community.
- Find your local SBA office and ask about their workshops.
- Find a local Small Business Development Center (SBDC) and take one of the training sessions or just speak with an teacher.
- Find your local SCORE Chapter and speak with one of the retired executive volunteers.
I am not old and neither are you. I’m starting a new career at 60; you can start at any age.
