Have you heard about the “brain fitness” industry? It is a new field that encompasses personal games (like the Nintendo Wii, for example) and training, to “vision restoration therapy.” Several recent articles and blog posts have recommended this topic is a natural extension of the fitness industry. After all, our baby boomer brains (and eyesight, and hearing) aren’t getting any younger.

Brain fitness theory seems to follow the “use it or lose it” philosophy; current studies have shown that daily brain fitness exercises can improve thinking and memory.

Here are some examples of products and services:

  • Cogmed, which makes a software training program designed to help restore cognitive (brain) function
  • Novavision, which markets “vision restoration therapy” to help people who have had vision loss.
  • PositScience has a “cognitive training program for visual processing and memory. “

So get out there and exercise your brain. (I have this great image of your brain on pushups.)
