For the next couple of weeks we will be checking out some homes in the most expensive zip codes in the United Says, up this day, 60611 . This zip code is in Chicago, Illinois and encompasses costly Chicago’s Gold Coast area. This zip code has a median price of $1,954,000 with an appreciation rate of 236% since 1990.
Right now, the most pricey listings in this area belong to the Chicago Spire, the huge spiraled Santiago Calatrava masterpiece that will be the new defining piece in the Chicago skyline. The MLS is also sprinkled with some pricey listings for Trump’s Chicago offering. But for today’s estate I chose something a tiny older that talks to this area’s history. This duplex is part of a building built in 1913, designed by architect Benjamin Marshall and located on East Lake Shore Drive. The unit was bought as raw space by the current owners in 1998 and redesigned by architect Scott Himmel. The main level has a round entry foyer with curved stairway, massive living room with lake views, a separate dining room/library, family room, eat-in kitchen with breakfast room and butler’s pantry, and a separate laundry room. The upper level has three bedrooms including a master suite with a study, dressing rooms and a terrace over looking the lake. This home is listed at $5.6 million.

Chris Tucker, the comedian most famous for playing Jackie Chan’s foil in the Rush Hour movies, has put his home in the Mulholland Park Estates area in Tarzana on the market. The Real Estalker Mama unearthed this find for us and also reports that he owns the home next door so it isn’t clear which home Tucker lives in. This makes sense because this luxurious but brain-numbingly boring home doesn’t seem to reflect Tucker’s antic spirit. The home was a previous model estate and was likely furnished for neutrality by home stagers. The five-bedroom home is 6,500 square feet and also has a home theater, upstairs game room and library. The pool area is particularly over the top with its statues and water features. The master bedroom also has a very shiny campagne bedspread and some curious lighting and a rather small TV tucked into a bookshelf. The master bath includes a very big spa tub which looks a little dated (the home was built in 1995 and already seems to be showing its age). This home does seem to have a decent location for the valley, it looks to be up on a hill and has views over the valley. The home is listed at $3.8 million.

For the next couple of weeks we will be checking out some homes in the most costly zip codes in the United States, up today, 33924. This zip code brings us to Captiva Island, Florida a spit of land stretching into the Gulf of Mexico. This tranquil and warm area has a median price of $2,060,000 with an appreciation rate of 382% since 1990.
Captiva island is reached by car via the Sanibel Causeway and Sanibel-Captiva Road. Its location makes it a bit of a hurricane magnet and the island was damaged in 2004 when Hurricane Charley rolled through. That doesn’t stop people from building some big houses though. Case in point, today’s estate, a massive three-story home with six bedrooms. The overall decor relies far too much on the beige but the home does have a salt water aquarium, gourmet kitchen, elevator, arched gallery, marble floors and huge mahogany double doors. The swimming pool includes a spa and an area for in-water dining and most importantly a short walk brings you directly to the Captiva Isand’s famously beautiful white sand beaches. This property is listed at $10,900,000.

Musician Moby is facing real estate woes on both coasts this week. He has been trying to sell his charming New York co-op in the El Dorado since last summer (check out photos from our estate of the day posting here) but seems to be having trouble finding a buyer his co-op board will love. Moby bought the two-bedroom tower apartment for $4.5 million in September 2005 and it is spread out over four levels and has terraces with terra cotta tiles, stone parapets and of course, mega views. He originally listed it at $7.5 million and found a buyer but the El Dorado co-op board turned the buyer down. Moby got smart and Main Street reports that he’s now offering $75,000 as a finder’s fee to anyone who can help him find a buyer that can pass muster.
As we heard a couple months ago, Moby and his friend fashion designer Stacey Bendet bought a $3 million house in the Hollywood Hills with the plans to turn it into a showplace for stylists and celebs with the garage as Moby’s recording studio. Now neighbors aren’t thrilled with idea of a music studio in the area and are warning him not to pursue the renovation. A neighbor said to the NY Post that they kicked Prince off the street for making noise and so Moby should be careful. Gee, life as a peace-loving vegan millionaire is tougher than I thought.
