This isn’t my first Terra Bella estate of the day and might not be my favorite (the California Terra Bella from last year has my heart) but it’s still rather charming. This Terra Bella is located in the gated community of Indian River Shores in Vero Beach, FLorida. It has approximately 125 ft. ocean frontage on 1.25 acres. The six-bedroom home is your standard Florida Mediterranean but it has a lot more grace than some of the newer homes I’ve seen in the area. The use of dark wood, tile and arches gives it more of a classic Californian look and I’m always a sucker for a house with circular space. The property includes a separate guest quarters with a living room, circular dining room, kitchenette, and balcony over the three car garage which has mahogany garage doors, cobblestone pavers in the auto court and an adjacent circular wine room with a computerized inventory control system. The outdoor space includes a pool surrounded by grass and tiles which doesn’t offer much space to lounge around but perhaps that’s what the nearby ocean is for. This home is listed at $8.75 million.

The theme for this week seems to be “take a chance.” I’ve been thinking a lot about taking chances. And the pic for “Fun Friday” seems to fit right in.

Baby Boomer Sharon Stone (born in 1958) put her foot in her moutsharonstone_nc.jpgh with her remarks about “karma” and the recent Chinese earthquake. Did she mean to? Probably not. But someone in the public eye has to be very careful what she says.

We all do. But celebrities especially. Once spoken, even if she apologized, the words can never be un-spoken.

Was she the “public enemy of all mankind,” as the Chinese news agency stated? Or did she just speak too quickly?

What do you think?

Sharon, my suggestion would be to avoid Chinese restaurants for a while. Or at least read the fortune cookie before you start eating.

I’ve covered the work of Xorin Balbes before this designer does some of the coolest interior design around Southern California rehabbing older homes into showplaces. He collaborated with architect Paul Ashley on this Palm Springs dream home, a four-bedroom contemporary built in 1974. The home has a maser suite with mountain and pool views plus a gorgeous bath complete with steam shower. There are three more suites each with a custom bath. The home is absolutely walled and gated which gives you privacy in your glass palace. It’s modern design heaven with soaring ceilings, high-end finishes of bleached wood, concrete, marble and glass. The outdoor space includes covered patios and a big pool area. The whole place is as flawless as a motion picture set and the perfect pad for pleasing. This home is listed at $3.75 million.

Pimp Your Work

Readers, readers, readers. No one answered the question I asked last time, which was “What is your dream job?” Don’t worry - I’m taking on the blame myself. After all, what a painfully common, question, right? Still, if you feel the need to answer it, you can do so at the comments section of that post.

So, this week, I’m asking you all:

What’s your definition of a good work-life balance? Have you attained it? Will you never attain it? Can you give any examples of friends or relatives who have reached this or who are having trouble achieving it?

Share your answers with us in the comments.

I’ve to applaud the real estate lister for honesty on this one, the listing says that the rooms are “comfortable, but not huge.” This is the price one pays sometimes for an older home and today’s home, a Jonathan Badger tenement, c. 1770 (brick portion possibly dating to circa 1693) in downtown Charleston is definitely old by American standards. This four-bedroom home has maintained many of its original features right down to the 1770 lock on the front door. The first floo has a formal living room, music room and formal dining room with fireplaces, beautiful moldings and high ceilings. The kitchen has wall ovens, an electric cooktop with ventilated grill, a built-in microwave, refrigerator, trash compactor, instant hot water dispenser, garbage disposal, and ice maker and a walk-in pantry offers storage. Adjoining the kitchen is a small den with a big brick fireplace. The second level includes the master bedroom with a big walk-in closet/dressing room as well as a lady’s dressing room with a fireplace, multiple closets, and a vanity. The full bath contains two sinks, a bidet, toilet, jacuzzi tub, and separate shower. A drawing room/library offers a fireplace flanked by built-ins. Two additional rooms, which could serve as a bedroom, study/office, or sitting room, share a full bath. On the third level, there are two more bedrooms which share a full bath. The private and gated bricked driveway can accommodate parking for 4 vehicles and there’s a formal garden with azaleas, camellias, loquats, mini magnolias, yew, juniper, and 120 rose bushes. If your furniture is small and your heart is traditional, this is one great place. It is listed at $2,625,000.
