Today’s home has an admirable spot in Santa Barbara, California along Channel Drive. It overlooks Butterfly Beach with views to the Channel Islands and up along the sweep of the coast. It is located in a great neighborhood with simple beach access. The home itself is a bit of a question mark. Built in 1951, it’s got a modernist style but it seems a bit dated. The home has three bedrooms which are positioned for ocean views. There are cool details here, the gated property is entered through a massive courtyard containing a two-car garageand the approach to the home is via wide pebbled stairs that appear to float above a reflecting pool lined with blue mosaic tiles, and bordered by plantings. The living and dining areas offer floor-to-ceiling glass windows wrapped around two sides of the building with clerestory windows for added light. The entire site has been arranged for maximum privacy so there’s no need for window shades. The living room is linked to a sunken dining area with a massive black circular chimney hood descending from the ceiling and hanging above a circular raised fire pit. The home sits on less than a half and acre and is listed at $35 million. Even for this area that’s a lot for a home that I suspect might end up being a teardown. What say you, update and expand or scrap it and start over?

As you know, I’ve been compiling an ongoing list of 50 things to do at 50-something. These are fun, life-extending, life-enhancing, positive things. And I would like your help.

Leave a comment below giving me one additional item to add to the 50/50 list. Deadline for the comments is Friday, June 21 at 11:59 PM (Eastern Daylight Savings Time). Your comment must be appropriate for 50-something Baby Boomers, and it can’t duplicate one my comments, from June 4th or June 5th.

The prize? A $30 gift certificate to Barnes and Noble or Borders, your choice.

The comments will be put into a random drawing, and I’ll announce the winner here at Small Business Boomers. I need 30 more items, and I hope you all can help provide them.

Make sure your e-mail address is included in the designated space with your comment. Otherwise I won’t be able to contact you if your name is drawn.

The prize is only available to those in the U.S. and Canada.

This is my first contest here at Small Business Boomers, and I’m excited to see lots of great comments. I’ll publish all appropriate comments here at the end of the contest.

I’ve another “gig” for About.com as a Guide for U.S. Small Business Law and Taxes.  I recently wrote about the candidates’ business plans.  (You can see what I wrote about Hillary Clinton’s views on business taxes, if you’re interested.)

Here is the information on Barak Obama and business taxes.

The foreclosures are coming fast and furious these days. The latest is boxing champion Evander “Real Deal” Holyfield. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the mother of Evander Holyfield’s 10-year-old son states he has missed two child-support payments. Holyfield’s reps told her not to anticipate the payments. Holyfield, who has 11 kids total, is apparently in financial distress. His mansion in Fayette County, Georgia is under foreclosure. The home, which is worth $10 million is set to be auctioned by Washington Mutual Bank on July 1. Holyfield has also been sued by a consulting company for not paying pack a $550,000 loan. This might explain why 45-year-old Holyfield has been trying to get back into the boxing ring for another heavyweight championship. Holyfield made significant money over the course of the years but like too many other sports figures seems to have wound up not holding on to much of it.
