From some of the companies I’ve talked to, the results from advertising on LinkedIn have been fairly strong. Then again, the website is the largest and fastest growing professional network, making it much easier for targeting.

Well, LinkedIn is improving things even more. That’s, the company has launched LinkedIn DirectAds. As the name implies, this is a self-service system.

Of course, this may not be the best option for major advertisers that need sophisticated campaigns. But, for small companies, this solution can be ideal (hey, just look at the success of Google AdWords).

And the targeting for DirectAds is highly granular. For example, you can choose a myriad of industry categories, such as CPAs, graphic designers, and so on. Or, perhaps you want to focus on sales executives or CEOs? Keep in mind that LinkedIn has 20 million registered users (with extensive profile information on each).

Getting started is simple. The process takes a few minutes and the minimum fee is $25.

Today’s home has East Coast style with the luxury of West Coast weather. This compound is located in a colony of beach homes on Sand Point Road in the coastal community of Carpinteria, California. The five-bedroom estate includes both a main home and a guest house. The design takes the traditional Cape Cod style and lightens and brightens it with an exterior of bleached cedar shingles and an interior of massive windows and white beams. The home is practically perfect (maybe the media room is a bit off but other than that, wow). Because it is Carpinteria though you’ll pay through the nose for a home like this. It’s listed at $32.5 million and doesn’t even seem to have a pool.

I just heard of a young professional who has been in practice for only a few years.  He was in a terrible accident, which will mean hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical bills, not to say the loss of his capability to practice.

If you’re considering leaving your job to go into a small business, please check out health insurance and disability insurance.  If you can’t afford these payments, you need to find something else to sacrifice to get them.  If you’re not going into business, be sure you have health coverage, and don’t depend on your employer (you know what happened to GM retiree health coverage).

You might be able to set up an insurance plan for your small business, but get help doing this, as the IRS has rules about deductibility of such plans.

Finally.  The modeling industry is waking up to the reality of 72 million baby boomers with $2 trillion in buying power. And we know that women do most of the spending, so marketers are now starting to target them. Case in point:

TVLand’s new reality series “She’s Got the Look,” which selected 35-year old plus women (ok, they’re not quite ready for the 50-somethings, but they’re getting closer) and searched for the most photogenic.   The winner of the competition is a 45-year old mom of 5, married 17 years.

That this show is on TVLand is no accident.  The network targets people in their 40s and 50s, and they recently commissioned a study of baby boomer spending titled “Generation Buy: A Close Look at the Boomer Consumer.”
