The winner in a minute, but first, my observations:

I was overwhelmed by the number of people who have great creative ideas and a desire to express those ideas.

For example: When I got divorced, my ex burned all of my poetry (along with other things). I am just now getting the creativity flowing again. This would help me gain that once again.

I have about a dozen suspense novels and a great screenplay rattling around in my brain…..I’m always being told that I “should write a book”……perhaps I should!!
(I know the feeling - I’ve a fiction book and several non-fiction business books in my head - strange feeling.)

I would love to create a dollhouse…..a REAL dollhouse, with electricity and everything! (What a fantastic idea!)

I’m an aspiring memoirist, I’ve been reading as many memoirs as I can to prepare, boy do I have stories to tell! Could use the inspiration, would love to win this!

I’d like to create songs that would really move people.

I would love to be able to paint, my dream would be to be able to capture the ocean right before a storm when everthing feels so free, the breeze blowing the salt water, it would be awesome

I spent most of my life writing poetry, short stories, and journalistic articles, even though I originally received a degree in Painting & Drawing. In the past few years I’ve begun creating two-dimensional collages inspired by put-together images from recycled magazines (until the imagery and landscape are all my own, and poetic). I’m always waiting to see what the next collage will be, and what my subconscious will end up telling me about me and society in general! So that’s what I want to create now, the next collage, big or small, in between bouts of sculpture, jewelry-making, and pottery!

I never heard of this book-I want to finish a quilt! I’m a sewer and have quilted but I never seem to complete things. Maybe if a win I have the ability to read how to gain the inspiration or maybe I need to break down the barriers that keep me from finishing? Thanks for the chance to win!

My problem is I want to do it ALL! And there just isn’t enough time to do it all, and so I end up never doing anything. But being creative is extremely important to me. My brain is constantly creating and finding inspiration, whether my hands ever move or not. Maybe this book is what I need to get over the feeling of helpless frustration… not to mention the guilt.
(I completely know how this person feels!)

Now for the winner:
Dawn Yates is the winner!!! I send her an email to let her know she won.
Congratulations to Dawn and to all of you who entered. I hope just thinking about the contest sparked your creativity.

On Sunday evening, a select group of Los Angeles design luminaries will converge at the intersection of fashion and architecture — Katy Rodriguez’s show at John Lautner’s Harpel residence. Models and It Gals like Chloe Sevigny and Christina Ricci will be wearing Rodriguez’s latest designs and mingling with guests including artists Shepard Fairey and Raymond Pettibon.

Judging from the collection, it feels like the perfect setting — the clothes have an architectural quality, and they’re filled with the rich, subtle detailing that distinguishes good design from the ordinary, or the ostentatious.

The Harpel home has been meticulously restored by Rodriguez’s business partner Mark Haddawy. He’s spent the past two years removing a superfluous second story and bringing the house back to its original, sublime logic.

Between the high fashion and the cityscape below, the views should be pretty spectacular. Check out the gallery to see a few images of the Harpel home and more pieces from Rodriguez’s Spring/Summer 2009 collection.

In the debate last night, we heard both John McCain and Barak Obama talk about taxes.

McCain states he’ll keep the current tax structure and not raise taxes on small businesses.
Obama states he’ll eliminate capital gains taxes for businesses.

But, as we all know, a promise is one thing. Keeping that promise is another. With the current financial situation and the commitments of the U.S. government to bail out everyone on Wall Street, can we reasonably anticipate that taxes won’t increase? Who is going to pay for all this stuff?

Think about this scenario: You and your spouse commit to bailing out a close friend who got into trouble. Your income can’t increase right now, so you either have to cut back on some expenditures or you figure ways to raise income.

The U.S. government has so many commitments right now (Social Security, Medicare, other spending), and it is already deeply in debt. There’s nowhere to go except to raise income by raising taxes.

I’m not saying that Senators Obama and McCain don’t have good intentions. But intentions don’t pay the bills. Don’t believe anything you hear in the next month, from either candidate. Whoever wins will walk into a large mess, and raising taxes might be the only way out.
